Cheri Yeung Hiu Lam
Born 1968, Cheri always has a love for art. The talented woman artist went through the inevitable life experience however, had never gave up painting. Despite her long-hour working as a designer at an embroidery company, she let her creativity flows along and kept up with her artistic practice at a studio in Hung Hom.
Cheri’s creation all began with the complements she got from her art teachers at a young age of 10.
‘When I was 10, we had a painting competition of the traditional dragon boat at school. I came first in the class. My teacher gave me a box of Sakura oil pastels. I was very excited since it was my first Japanese drawing materials – my dad used to buy me paints but they were all made in China. It then seeded my interest for painting.’
Often driven by her sensitivity to various subjects in life, she actualizes these facets of feelings into visual elements. Music lover Cheri, would draw music into her creation, in which the way her paintings are made.
Painted with passion and sentimentality, her works are her expressions of the contemporary, an alienated city experience.
