WHATS NEW

All at AFA send the best wishes for 2012 – may we all be blessed with good health, happiness and a goodly share of the wealth factor.

The gallery has a full program of exhibitions and events for the year ahead.

14 Sik On Street Gallery, Wan Chai
Ongoing Gallery Exhibition
New works for the New Year by Hu Hui highlight his very special style of painting contemporary landscapes, water and rural scenes from his native Anhiu Province, China.

Hu Hui paints understandable contemporary as he sees it – through the eyes of a master artist who lives and works with his surroundings. His paintings are full of bright colours, intertwined landscapes and busy interacting themes - just as he sees life around him.

Not a sit in the studio painter, Hu Hui, he is constantly out in the field - sketching and looking for new forms and shapes, gleaning from everyday life and everyday happenings.

His solo exhibition titled ‘Art of Inspiration’ runs until the middle of February.

3/F The Landmark, Central, Hong Kong
The works of Fine Art Photographer, Christian Knowles
“Walkabout”, a collection of selected fine art photographs by Christian Knowles.

Christian Knowles from north Wales, learned the creative basics of photography with an ex-Fleet Street snapper and went on to work as an expedition photographer in Africa.

He went on to work in Spain, where he held his first solo exhibition. Much travelled, Christian has since returned to the UK, where his work has been shown widely, most notably with the Royal Photographic Society sponsored Britain-on-Sea exhibition that toured the country for over 2 years.

Journeys play an important role in Christian’s work, they offer him an opportunity to step outside the comfort zone of day to day existence. Searching for images in unfamiliar surroundings, Christian feels part hunter and part prey. This is the driving force behind his raison d’etre.

Walkabout was inspired by the musings of Bruce Chatwin in his book The Songlines about the nomadic life of Australia’s indigenous population. Walkabout is the term given to the spiritual journey made by adolescent male Aborigines where they live in the wilderness for as long as six months.

He recently completed a photo shoot in Hong Kong.

His exhibition Walkabout, continues until mid March.
